The Pine Beetle Collection is about the epidemic currently occurring across several forests in North America. Two types of bark beetle, the pine beetle and spruce beetle, are slowly killing off lodgepole pine and spruce trees. The pine beetle epidemic is currently impacting about eight national forests in the Rocky Mountain region alone. This invasive species is creating a significant amount of dead trees causing a higher fire danger and issues related to deadfall (or active falling trees on people, roads, and telephone lines).
The pattern designs are full of intricate drawing, mirroring the intricate tunnels carved into the trunks of the trees. The designs in the collection consist of pine and spruce trees, mountains, beetles, pine needles, pine eaten tunnels, and tree rings.
